Trockener Steg - orienteering in the snow at over 3,000m

25 July - This has to be one of the highlights of my orienteering experiences - orienteering at such high altitude and running on snow at times, and a better result, finishing 10th.  The Matterhorn rose above us and seemed so close!

After the event I walked down a trail to a lower gondola, passing some of my controls along the way

While I was orienteering Owen and Jim climbed up the lower slopes of the Matterhorn to a large mountain lodge that can be seen at the top left.  This photo was taken from our orienteering area ...
... and this photo was taken by Owen looking down on the orienteering competition - you may be able to make out competitors on the snow.
