4 August - Lyon is France's third largest city after Paris and Marseilles, with a population of about 500,000. We used the excellent train and bus network to visit the city centre. The old quarter is a UNESCO world heritage site. It was very beautiful and spacious. Two very large rivers, the Rhone and the Saone converge within the city so there are several large bridges.

Heavy rain arrived so we stopped at a sheltered outdoor cafe beside the Rhone to enjoy an excellent coffee.
