Another Thursday adventure - looking for Ruapae Falls

30 October - a tramp to find the Ruapae falls in the eastern Tararuas.  Only one in our group had been there before.  Unfortunately recent rain meant that we didn't make it - the Mangatainoka stream was becoming deeper and deeper and we met a smaller waterfall that was too much of a barrier in the cold conditions.  We were actually only a few hundred metres from the Ruapae falls but they were out of sight.  Our tramping group had a successful trip later in the summer but unfortunately I was not able to join them that day ... another time ... the waterfall is high and spectacular I'm told.  Photos: Richard Ellis.
